Editorâs Note
Hey, dear reader!
Since May, when this newsletter launched, we've covered 200+ startup and tech events across 25+ weekly issues. I dug into the data and here's what I found:
On average, there are 10 events in Hamburg each week, but they're not evenly spread. September was the busiest month with 60+ events, followed by July (44) and June (39).
Overall, 57% of events are in German and 43% in English. But dig deeper and the picture changes: Developer-focused events skew 70% English, while networking & pitching events lean 60% German.
AI and tech events make up more than half of all programming. AI specifically appears everywhere â from hackathons to conferences to agent-coding workshops.
Most events cover general topics. Only a small fraction, particularly in tech, tackle narrow, specialised subjects.
As time passes, I'll collect more data and share fresh insights. In the meantime:
Looking for an event? Use these patterns to make better decisions.
Hosting an event? Don't chase numbers. Focus on value, and don't be afraid to go narrow.
Note: these insights reflect the handpicked events featured in the newsletter â roughly 70-80% of Hamburg's startup scene.
